Police arrest Enugu woman selling PVCs in viral video, INEC accomplice


A woman who was seen in a viral video demanding for the sum of N1000 before giving Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to the owners at a primary School in Enugu State has been arrested.


The police identified the woman as Chinwendu Nnamani and the venue where she was selling the PVCs to their owners as a primary school in Emene community of Enugu state.


The Police also said a staff of INEC, Nkiruka Patience Obinna, who allegedly gave the said PVCs to Nnamani for distribution to the actual owners has also been arrested.


DSP Daniel Ndukwe, Enugu state command public relations officer, confirmed the arrest of the two suspects in a statement issued on Thursday.


He said, “Police detectives serving in the State Criminal Investigation Department of Enugu State Command on January 31, 2023, arrested a female suspect, one Chinwendu Nnamani, 41.”


“Nnamani was involved in the viral social media video clip in which she is seen and alleged to be selling INEC Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) at the sum of One Thousand Naira, at a Primary School in Emene, Enugu.


“Also arrested is one Nkiruka Patience Obinna, 38, identified as an INEC staff member and alleged to have given the said PVCs to the first suspect for distribution to the actual owners.”


“Investigation has been concluded, the case charged to court in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022, and the suspects arraigned accordingly,” he said.


The suspects were granted bail, and the case was adjourned to Feb.15 for further hearing.
