Gunmen kill Unizik lecturer in Anambra

Some gun-wielding men, suspected to be cultists on Tuesday morning shot and killed a lecturer with Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra state.

A source identified the victim as Dr Anthony Eze, a lecturer with the faculty of education in the university.

According to the source, the lecturer was just driving out of his residence at Ifite Awka, to take his children to school, when yet-to-be identified gunmen stormed and opened fire on him.

“He attempted to flee from them, but he was chased and gunned down by the men.

“We were here this morning when Dr Eze was driving out of his house and suddenly a Toyota Corolla saloon car pulled towards the entrance of his house and when he tried to drive back, they followed him and shot him in the chest. We ran away.

“We later rushed him to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, but the doctor on duty confirmed that he was dead.”

Spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, when contacted said he was not aware of the incident.
