Gov Okowa’s aide Michael Akpobire resigns

An aide to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, Michael Akpobire, has tendered his resignation.

His letter dated January 5 was addressed to the Secretary to the State Government.

Akpobire was the Executive Assistant to Okowa on Technical Education and Chairman of the Technical Education Board.

The former appointee is Peoples Democratic Party’s leader in Enwhe/Okpolo Ward 9 in Isoko South Local Government Area.

There are speculations that Akpobire resigned to pitch tent with the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2023 election.

The party’s governorship candidate is Ovie Omo-Agege, presently the Deputy Senate President.

Akpobire was formerly President of Delta State University Students’ Union.

He led the Canaan Land Movement, one of the groups that campaigned for Okowa in the build-up to the 2015 general polls.

The young politician served as Senior Special Assistant on Students Affairs and was later a director in the Direct Labour Agency (DLA) when Emmanuel Uduaghan was governor.
