Al-Nassr forward, Ronaldo told to speak out on human rights violations in Saudi Arabia

Middle East researcher at human rights organization Amnesty International, Dana Ahmed, has urged Al-Nassr’s new signing Cristiano Ronaldo to speak out on Saudi Arabia’s human rights violations.

Ahmed said this after Ronaldo officially completed his transfer move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr.

Ronaldo, 37, was officially unveiled as an Al-Nassr player on Tuesday in front of the club’s supporters at Mrsool Park.

Before the unveiling, Ronaldo insisted that he not only wanted to develop Saudi Arabian football but the Middle East country in general.

However, Ahmed has now called on the former Manchester United forward to do the humane thing and speak out on human rights violations across the country.

Ahmed said (via Amnesty.org): “Saudi Arabia regularly executes people for crimes including murder, rape and drug smuggling.

“Cristiano Ronaldo should not allow his fame and celebrity status to become a tool of Saudi’s sportswashing.

“He should use his time at Al-Nassr to speak out about the myriad human rights issues in the country.”
