World Cup: England captain, Harry Kane sends message to Brazil legend Pele

England captain, Harry Kane, has sent a message to ailing Pele as the Brazilian legend recovers from a health scare in the hospital.

Pele, 82, has been receiving treatment for colon cancer in the past few days.

The three-time World Cup winner also underwent surgery to remove a tumour in September 2021.

Pele was recently taken back to the hospital for palliative care after the chemotherapy stopped having the expected results.

Pele’s condition appeared serious at first, but he eventually allayed his fears after posting an encouraging message on Instagram, where he also showed gratitude to everyone for their good wishes.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of England’s World Cup last-16 tie with Senegal on Sunday night, Kane sent Pele the best wishes on behalf of himself and the Three Lions.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker also described Pele as an incredible footballer and an inspiration in football.

Kane said (via Metro): “He is an inspiration in our game. He’s an incredible footballer, an incredible person.

“We are very sad to hear news of him being ill, but we wish him well, not just me but the whole England set-up.”
