WATCH: Eight hospitalised as fans break into Asake’s concert in Brixton

Eight people are reportedly in hospital with four in critical condition after a crowd broke into Asake‘s concert in Brixton, London.

The Nigerian singer had a show at the 4900-capacity O2 Academy in Brixton following the release of ‘Mr. Money With The Vibe’, his debut album.

On Thursday night, videos surfaced on social media platforms showing concertgoers locked outside the venue in freezing temperatures.

In one of the footage, a large number of people were seen trying to force their way into the venue of Asake’s concert.

The concert, it is understood, was eventually cancelled part-way after the crowd breached the doors and security.

Sky News quoted The Met Police as saying the ambulance service and fire brigade were called at 9:30 pm.

It was revealed that eight persons were taken to hospital, with four still in critical condition due to injuries in the stampede.

Speaking on the incident, Ade Adelekan, an officer, was quoted as describing the stampede as “extremely distressing”.

“This is an extremely upsetting incident that has left four people critically ill in the hospital. A police investigation has been launched, and it will be as thorough and as forensic as necessary to establish what happened,” he said.

“The scene will be examined by specialist officers. CCTV will be viewed. Every witness that we can make contact with will be spoken to and all other lines of inquiry will be followed.

“Officers are remaining in the area to provide reassurance to the local community in and around Brixton.”

Asake has been enjoying fame since his breakout — upon being signed to the YBNL label in February 2022.

Rolling Stone and the New York Times named Asake’s debut project among the top albums of 2022.

Asake was also nominated for the BBC Radio 1 Sound of 2023 award, while Audiomack said he is their ‘Artiste of the Year’.
