A court in Los
Angeles has found Tory Lanez, the Canadian artiste, guilty of shooting
Megan Thee Stallion, the American rapper.
Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, has been in the
news since he was alleged to have shot Megan
in both feet after the duo left a house party in Hollywood Hills in July.
In October, he was charged with shooting the 25-year-old female rapper.
On Friday, the court convicted him of negligent discharge of a firearm, assault with a semi-automatic firearm, and carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm.
The court also ordered the remand of the 30-year-old in
custody until his sentencing scheduled to hold on January 27.
It is understood that the musician faces over 20 years in
prison following his conviction by the court.
According to BBC,
Lanez did not react when the court gave its verdict.
Addressing journalists, a lawyer to Megan hailed the
judgment, saying “the jury got it right. I am thankful there is justice for
Meg”.
But George Mgdesyan, lawyer to the Canadian musician, argued
that the investigation was botched.
Megan had earlier described the incident as a “traumatic night”. She also said
she is “extremely grateful to be alive”.
During the trial, the rapper had also testified that Lanez
offered her $1m (£830,000) to conceal the incident because he was on probation
for a weapon offence.
