Buhari, African leaders to perform groundbreaking of new ECOWAS Headquarters in Abuja

Barring any last minutes change in plans, President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to lead a high powered delegation of African leaders on Sunday to perform a ground-breaking ceremony of the new ECOWAS Headquarters building at Lugbe, Abuja.

After the ground breaking ceremony, at 9am the President will then return to the State House Conference Centre for The 62nd Ordinary Summit of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.

Among regional leaders already in Nigeria to attend the 62nd Ordinary Summit of ECOWAS Authority of Heads and Heads of State and Government are Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo; Liberian President George Opong Wey and Senegalese President Macky Sall.

Presidents of Togo, Faure Gnassingbe; Benin Republic, Patrice Talon; Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio and Cote d Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara amongst other presidents of ECOWAS states are also on ground.

We can confirm that the road leading to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport in Abuja and a few other busy roads are wearing a face lift as billboards with photographs of the visiting ECOWAS Heads of State and Government could be seen visibly.

Buhari recently bowed out as Chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Commission LCBC, handing over the position to Deby Itno of Chad.
