PDP trapped in crisis, no way out before elections —APC

Felix Morka, spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is trapped in the abyss of crisis.

Speaking on Talk Point, a Lagos Television (LTV) programme, on Wednesday, Morka said he does not see the opposition party getting out of its crisis soon.

PDP has been engulfed in a crisis since May when Atiku Abubakar became the party’s standard bearer.

Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state, who came second in the primary, has not shown support to Abubakar and has some governors in the party on his side.

The APC spokesman described the issues that are being experienced in the PDP as “self inflicted.”

“We are more than ready for the elections. We are working on the inside to address whatever dissatisfaction we may have with some of our members who may be aggrieved one way or the other,” he said.

“The PDP is completely trapped in the abyss of crisis from which I don’t expect to emerge before the election. They have almost single handedly inflicted harm on themselves because that is the nature, internal contradictions of that party.”

Morka said Bola Tinubu, standard bearer of the APC, would address medical tourism if he is elected into office.

“Health tourism right now is a huge drain on our foreign exchange earnings and we spend a lot of money financing those people going out. When they are going out they find dollars either through the banking sector or bureau de change, so it costs us a lot of money,” he said.

“In any event how many of us can afford the huge cost of healthcare abroad. The majority of us cannot. It is imperative for any government to do much for healthcare.

“If you look at the manifesto, Asiwaju has made it clear that healthcare is important. Our greatest assets are the people of Nigeria. He intends governments to begin to look inwards when it comes to healthcare. Until we patronize our healthcare system, we won’t realize some of the gaps there.”
