Ekiti Police parades 8 suspects


The Ekiti State Police Command has paraded eight suspects for various criminal offences, such as kidnapping, murder and conspiracy.


Parading the suspects, an officer of the information unit, Ayemoni Paul said the suspects were arrested at different locations by the Rapid Response Squad.


Giving details of the cases, Paul said: “On 23 November 2022, at 15:30hrs, while the Command operatives were on rescue operation in Ijan-Ekiti forest, they arrested two notorious kidnappers namely, Ojo Jubril, aka No Story, and Job Matthew. aka 77.”


According to him, on interrogation, the arrested suspects confessed that they kidnapped one Adams Segun, 55, on his farm at Kajola Farm settlement, Ijan-Ekiti on 16 November and reportedly killed him. They also confessed to various kidnapping incidents in Ekiti State and mentioned one Daniel Mathew aka Gbenbgeleku, Busuyi Popoola aka Adaba and Daniel as their accomplices.


Paul further said: “On 11 November at 11:40hrs, during bush combing exercise in the Government Reserve Forest bordered by Odo-Ado, Ijan-Ekiti, Ise-Ekiti, Emure-Ekiti and Ikere-Ekiti, one Ibrahim Babangida was arrested by the command operatives inside the forest. On sighting the Police, the remaining gang members escaped in different directions. On interrogation, the arrested suspects confessed to the kidnapping of one Tiasu Mohammed and Abdullahi Saleh in Odido Farm settlement of Ado-Ekiti on 28 October.”


The officer also confirmed the arrest of three kidnappers, John Moses, Monday Bawa and Boie Yandam in connection with the abduction of the principal of Community Primary School, Irele-Ekiti alongside one Olajide Idowu, Ajayi Folorunsho and Ijaodola.


Speaking on the last case, the police spokesman said the four suspected armed robbers invaded Ekiti State Yam Processing Factory, Ilasa-Ekiti, but were engaged in a shootout by hunters during which one of the armed robbers, Wareez, sustained a gunshot injury while other members of his gang took to their heels.


“Further effort led to the arrest of Lateef Lekan and Taofeek Abeeb who partook in the crime. One Aluminium window and five industrial fans stolen from the crime scene were recovered from the arrested suspects while the injured suspect, rushed to the General Hospital, Ikole-Ekiti, was certified dead,” he disclosed.
