2023: Catholic Bishop warns against voting same-faith ticket

Most Reverend Mathew Ndagoso, the Catholic Bishop of Kaduna Archdiocese, has warned Christians against voting for any political party that fields a same-faith ticket for the 2023 elections.

Bishop Ndagoso disclosed this on Monday during an event in Kaduna, revealing that the same-faith ticket does not promote equity, fairness and unity in a diverse country like Nigeria.

Recall that the All Progressives Congress, APC, had been attacked by some Nigerians for fielding Muslim-muslim ticket of Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima.

However, the cleric noted that religion is an important factor to be considered in the nation’s socio-political charter, and that political parties or presidential candidates must take it into consideration when making their choices for elections.

“Nigeria is a very diverse country, we come from different cultural backgrounds, religious backgrounds, and social backgrounds and our diversities are not a curse; they are blessings from God.

“All we need are leaders who will be able to manage and harness these diversities to enrich our country. Therefore, the kind of leader Nigeria needs is somebody who has the ability to manage our differences and bring everybody together and give everyone a sense of belonging.”

He further called on President Muhammadu Buhari to secure the country ahead of the forthcoming elections to enable Nigerians exercise their franchise.
