Tinubu shuns Taraba APC guber candidate, appoints Sambo State coordinator

The controversy surrounding the Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has again taken a different dimension.

This was noticed on Wednesday as the Presidential candidate of the party, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, shunned the embattled governorship candidate of the party, Emmanuel Bwacha to appoint the Minister of Transportation, Muazu Jaji Sambo as the State coordinator of his presidential campaign.

This is in sharp contrast with what happens in other States where the gubernatorial candidates head the presidential campaign council of their various States in the absence of a governor.

The decision, according to a chieftain of the party, who craved anonymity, may be connected to the controversy regarding who is the authentic candidate of the party in the State.

Since the party’s governorship primary election which did not go down well with the majority of the aspirants, the party has been facing a crisis.

This was followed by various pre-election matters instituted against the party’s governorship flagbearer in both Jalingo and Abuja Federal High Court.

While a court in Jalingo has nullified the primary, warning the candidate to desist from parading himself as the party’s flagbearer, that of Abuja has set next month for ruling.

Some chieftains of the party, including a retired Permanent Secretary, Bakari Dorofi, told DAILY POST that “as far as we are concerned, our party has no governorship candidate in Taraba”.

Dorofi went ahead to cite how the former Minority Leader in the red chamber of the National Assembly crossed over to the APC at the eleventh hour to clinch the party’s governorship ticket.

On why the candidate was not assigned with the responsibility of leading Tinubu/Shettima campaign in the State, a national official of the party, who confided in our correspondent via a telephone, said, ” our presidential candidate want Taraba APC to settle their differences because he (Tinubu) is not interested in taking side.”
