Immigration rescues nine human trafficking victims in Jigawa


The Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, has rescued nine victims of human trafficking in Jigawa State.


State Comptroller of the service, Ahmed Dauda Bagari, stated this while briefing newsmen at the command headquarter in Dutse.


He said the victims of human trafficking were rescued by the immigration personnel on border patrol along Kazaure-Daura road.


According to him “The victims were intercepted on Friday at about 1700hrs in Kazaure local Government area on their route leaving the country to Europe via the Niger Republic and Libya.


“They were rescued after a tip-off and intelligence report about the movement of the victims from Kano to Niger through Kazaure.”


He explained that some of the victims sustained various degrees of injuries when the driver sighted the immigration checkpoint and tried to escape the arrest.


The driver was arrested and the victims were treated at General Hospital Dutse.


The Comptroller said the victims including eight females were between the age of 22 to 37 indigenes of Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Enugu states.


He said they will be handed over to National Agency for the Prohibition of Human Trafficking (NAPTI) for further action.
