EPL: Five talking points as Premier League enters Game Week 9

The Premier League enters its 9th week today with matches spread across cities in England

This would be the second full schedule after the funeral rites for Queen Elizabeth II and the international week.

Matches are expected to run nonstop until the 2022 World Cup with teams playing every three days.

However, there are events that are expected to make the big headlines this weekend.

1. Arsenal vs Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp’s struggling Liverpool side will travel to the Emirates on Saturday as they seek to turn their poor results in the Premier League around. While Arsenal are sitting atop the league table, Liverpool are right outside the top five in the table. The Reds beat Rangers in the Champions League and will hope to build on that result.

Everton vs Manchester United: Erik ten Hag and his men face a tricky game at Goodison Park on Sunday as they face Frank Lampard’s rejuvenated Toffees. Last week, the Red Devils suffered their second heaviest defeat of the season when their next door neighbours, Manchester City, thrashed them 6-3 at the Etihad. Ten Hag will deploy every measure to see his team return to winning ways.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Erik ten Hag: The legendary Portuguese superstar has started the season very slowly. The 37-year-old has scored only one goal for the Red Devils this season. He has been sparingly used by Ten Hag who kept him on the bench for the entire duration of their 6-3 defeat to Manchester City last weekend. The former Juventus star returned to action against Omonia in the Europa League at midweek but it remains unclear if the Dutch boss would have him in his XI against Everton.

Manchester City could go top: Pep Guardiola’s Cityzenes could go top of the Premier League table this weekend. This will depend on the result of the game between Arsenal and Liverpool. Pundits are divided on who wins the match but there’s the strong feeling that Jurgen may not want to lose against Arsenal today. A win for Liverpool would mean that City, who trail Arsenal by a point, would climb top of the table.

Free scoring Erling Haaland: Premier League defenders are still in search of solution for Erling Haaland. The Norwegian won’t stop scoring goals. The 22-year-old scored a hat-trick against Manchester United in his last Premier League outing. After the international break, Haaland made it a record three successive hat-tricks at home as City thrashed rivals Man Utd 6-3 at the Etihad. He also grabbed two assists in the memorable match. And he took his seasonal tally to 19 goals in 12 games with a double in the Champions League win over Copenhagen.
