A magistrate court sitting in Ajah, Lagos state, has
remanded Ice Prince, the rapper, at a yet-to-be-disclosed correctional facility
for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police spokesperson, confirmed
the rapper’s detention on Friday.
The ‘Oleku’ crooner was arraigned on a three-count charge
bordering on assault, obstructing a policeman from carrying out its statutory
duties, and abduction.
“He has been remanded in the correctional facility by the
court,” he said.
When asked which of the correctional facilities, he said: “I
am still waiting for the divisional police officer (DPO) to give me full
details but I think it’s Kirikiri.
“But for now, I can confirm that he has been remanded. I
will get the full details later.
“He has also been given conditions for bail…very stringent
conditions, so if he can meet them, he would be allowed to go but until he
meets the conditions, he will remain in custody.”
Ice Prince, whose real name is Panshak Zamani, was arrested
in the early hours of the day in Lagos.
Hundeyin had disclosed that the rapper was arrested for
driving without license plates.
The police spokesperson also said the musician allegedly
assaulted and threatened to throw an officer in his car into the river.
In a follow-up post, Hundeyin said the police are in
possession of video evidence of the incident but would not release it.
“For those asking for
video evidence, yes we have it. And no, we won’t release it. A very close ally
of his has seen it. It will be presented to the presiding magistrate as part of
our evidence,” he wrote.
