2023: Ayu’s resignation possible if we amend PDP constitution – Atiku

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming 2023 election, Abubakar Atiku has claimed that the resignation of the party’s national chairman, Senator Iyorcha Ayu is achievable.

Atiku made this disclosure during an interactive session with some leaders of PDP from the southwest zone in Ibadan on Wednesday.

Present at the interactive session were Governors Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, Atiku’s running mate, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Senator Ademola Adeleke, Soji Adagunodo, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, former governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu and his counterparts from Ondo, Olusegun Mimiko and Osun, Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

Others are; Eyitayo Jegede, Dino Melaye, Ladi Adebutu, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state, his deputy, Adebayo Lawal and Speaker of the state house of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin.

Recall that some leaders of the party had called for the resignation of the national chairman, Senator Iyorcha Ayu.

Atiku while reacting to the request made by Makinde that Ayu should resign, insisted that the resignation of Ayu is achievable if the party’s constitution is amended.

Atiku said “Only if the PDP constitution is amended.

“The calls for the resignation of the national chairman or any national officer can only be achieved through the party’s constitution.

“The party’s constitution can only be amended. It is possible.

“When I was the Vice President, we took over South West except for Lagos State. I don’t want us to lose focus, the focus is how to win the 2023 elections. I know that we are capable, we can do that”.

  1. Another mago-mago. Was the constitution amended before zoning rule was broken? Was the constitution not there when the chairman himself promised to resign?
