Owo massacre: Perpetrators’ arrest raises Nigerians’ hope of freedom from bandits – Retired Army General, Yusuf

A retired military General, and one-time Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) commander, General Damilola Yusuf, on Wednesday in Kaduna said the arrest of the perpetrators of the killings at St Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State, has raised a greater hope for Nigerians that one day the increasing cases of bandits attack and other forms of criminal activities in the country would be a thing of the past.

He urged the military high command to make those responsible for the attack on the church face the punishment for their crime.

Recall that scores of worshippers, including children, were killed during church service on June 5, 2022, when some gunmen invaded the church

However, on August 9, 2022, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor told editors and reporters that security operatives have arrested the suspected killers.

Reacting to the arrest on Wednesday, General Yusuf noted that the arrest signified a greater hope for Nigeria, adding that bandits and other criminals will soon face the wrath of God.

“One day, all manners of killing, abduction of human beings by terrorists and kidnappers will be a thing of the past,” he added.

According to him, if the security agents can arrest the Owo perpetrators, then hope is not lost as Nigerians will still return to the olden days when all religions are equal, as Muslims saw Christians as their brothers, ate together, slept together, did business together and married one another.

He said in as much as the criminals are not relenting in their evil deeds, there is the power that will also destroy them in a matter of time.
