Military needs political will to address insecurity— Kwankwaso

Rabiu Kwankwaso, presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), says the military needs political capital to effectively address the country’s security issues.

Speaking with reporters on Sunday in Lafia, capital of Nasarawa, Kwankwaso said he is knowledgeable about security issues owing to his time as a minister of defence.

The former governor of Kano said there is a need for security personnel to be trained and retrained over time.

“We have a big problem in the country in terms of insecurity,” NAN quoted him as saying.

“As a former minister of defence, I am knowledgeable about security. I believe that our military has the capacity to stop this mess through political will, encouragement, training and retraining of personnel.

“We will deal with corruption; we will bring integrity and capacity into the system; we will fight corruption decisively.”

Kwankwaso said if elected president, he would do everything possible to ensure that mineral resources are mined for the benefit of Nasarawa.

“Everybody knows that Nasarawa State is blessed with mineral resources. We will ensure that mining in the state is done in an organised manner so that the society can benefit,” he said.

“We at the NNPP plan to provide Nigerians with good governance, restore peace, address insecurity and improve the economy. Nigerians have suffered enough. We are on a rescue mission.”
