Abuja residents urged not to panic as Army commences field operations

The Nigerian Army on Thursday informed residents living in communities around Gwagwalada, Giri, Tugan Maji, Ana-Gada, Gudumba, Tagilogo, and Makalma in Abuja not to panic as the Army Women Corps (NAWC) would commence a 7-day field training exercise (FTX) for its troops from 27 August to 2 September 2022 in Giri-Gwagwalada general area, Abuja.

In a statement by Captain Hashimu Sa’ad Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, NAWC further advised residents to stay peaceful after seeing a mass movement of military personnel, vehicles, and equipment in the general area.

It urged residents to go about their normal daily routine activities and report any breach of security to the nearest authority.

“The exercise is designed to test the troop’s leadership skills, physical fitness, teamwork, military operations other than war among other military drills. The exercise would also provide a platform to ascertain troops’ preparedness towards supporting all the Nigerian Army’s engagements,” it said.

The statement also advised members of the communities to stay away from the exercise area during the entire period of the FTX.
