Abuja building collapse: No lives lost – FEMA


The Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Abbas Idris has disclosed that there were no lives lost at the one-story building collapse in Kubwa, a suburb of the FCT.


He stated this, even as rescue efforts are ongoing for the remaining two persons trapped in the rubble on Friday.


In a statement by the head of Public Affairs, Mrs Nkechi Isa which was made available to journalists in Abuja, said the Agency received a distress call about the incident at 11.45 pm on Thursday evening and thereafter activated its stakeholders to the scene.


He informed that 5 persons were rescued and taken to Kubwa District Hospital, noting that two of the patients have since been discharged.


He commended all the stakeholders for their prompt response and cooperation.


Idriss also commended the construction companies who in line with their corporate social responsibilities mobilised and deployed all their resources to save lives.


He also commended the Security Agencies for their vigilance and support.


The FEMA boss also commended residents of the area for their cooperation during the rescue operations.


Alhaji Idriss who appealed to developers to always obey the building code also warned residents to desist from living in uncompleted buildings.
