NYSC remains true symbol of national unity – Gov Uzodimma


Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo on Thursday, urged the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to promote national unity and development, saying it remains a true symbol of national unity


The governor made the call in his address to mark the passing-out of the 2021 Batch ‘B’ Stream ‘1’ corps members who had served in the state for one year.


Uzodimma, represented by the State’s Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr Dan Ogu, said the scheme had recorded many successes since its inception in 1973.


He pledged his commitment to youth empowerment through youth-friendly initiatives and thanked the corps members for contributing their quota to the success of his government through their positive impacts on Imo people.


According to him,” NYSC remains a true symbol of national unity and I urge you corps members who are passing out today to preserve Nigeria’s unity even after your service year.


“I urge you to be resourceful and proactive in all your life’s endeavours. Strive to put the skills you have acquired from the scheme to good use.


”On this note, I wish to disengage the 2021 Batch B stream 1 corps members deployed to Imo “, he said.


Speaking the NYSC State Coordinator in Imo, Mrs Rachael Idaewor, reaffirmed the scheme’s commitment to the development of Imo and Nigeria at large.


She thanked the Government and people of Imo for the hospitality extended to the corps members while they served and urged them to remain good ambassadors of their families, the scheme and Nigeria at large.


It was reported that 923 corps members were discharged, 369 males and 554 females.
