I built its secretariat in my LGA but APC did nothing for me –Kenneth Okonkwo

Kenneth Okonkwo says the All Progressives Congress (APC) did nothing for him as a member.

The actor recently dumped the APC, citing the party’s adoption of a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 presidential election.

In an interview with Arise TV, Okonkwo spoke about how he erected the APC’s secretariat in his local government.

He was asked why he would exit a ruling party when conversations are being had about the southern presidency.

Okonkwo argued that the party neither did anything for him nor gave him a sense of belonging as its member.

“As a young man of 24, I was blessed with fame and fortune. I happen to be the first actor that acted in the first film that started Nollywood. You do not contemplate that I would enter politics for my self-aggrandizement,” he said.

“No. Nigeria is my pursuit in politics. I will keep searching until I have it. Whatever you want to give me as a person is secondary. Give me Nigeria, stability, employment for the youth, a sense of belonging, and equal participation.

“You would have made my day. I was in APC all this while. I did everything. I erected the secretariat of APC in my ward and local government. [I defended Buhari when it was difficult.] Good. APC did nothing for me personally.

“Have you ever seen me complain? I’m not going to complain. I’m not contemplating [moving] to any party yet.”

Bola Tinubu, APC’s presidential candidate, named Kashim Shettima, ex-governor of Borno, as his running mate.

The development has, however, elicited mixed reactions from Nigerians since both politicians are Muslim.
