Infant mortality in downward spiral in Cross River – Ayade

Dr Linda Ayade, wife of Governor Ben Ayade has expressed happiness over the gradual reduction in infant mortality in the state.

Speaking at an event where she was represented by Dr Janet Ekpenyong, Director General of Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Ayade said, “I am happy to note that infant mortality rate in the state is going down in Cross River State.

“This is because of the proactive measures we have been putting in place to ensure children between ages 0 to 5 years are immunized against vaccine-preventable diseases.”

Ayade maintained that for many years, there has been no outbreak of diseases in the state, adding that regular public health exercises like the Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week, have helped to enlighten people.

She said the target is to ensure that no child in the state within 0 to 5 years is left out alongside pregnant women.

She added that the Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week will also afford mothers the opportunity to deworm children and give them Vitamin A supplementation.
