APC presidential primary: I can become candidate, I bought my form – Orji Kalu

Former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has revealed that he bought the 2023 presidential form of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and could enter the race proper this Tuesday morning if the party decides to zone the position to the South-East.

He, however, said if that was not the case, all other aspirants from the South-West and South-South should step down for Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.

Kalu said the President should only go to the South East or the North East, the two zones that are yet to produce the President of the country.

The APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, had on Monday picked Senate President, Lawan as the party’s consensus candidate.

But President Muhammadu Buhari, in a meeting with Northern governors, said the aspirants should be allowed to slug it out in the primaries so that the delegates would decide who becomes the candidate.

Also, some members of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, have kicked against the selection made by Adamu as Northern Governors under the APC are still insisting on a Southern presidential candidate.

“Anything that is not South East is not justice. Justice goes to the North East,” Orji Kalu said on Channels Television on Monday evening.

“There are two zones that have not produced a President and the South East is not going to support anybody from the South South or South West.

“The only justice going South is South East and that could be fairness. That is if you want to talk about justice, equity or one Nigeria.

“Why didn’t they zone it to the South East? South South is written off, South West is written off, the only zone left is South East.

“Give it to South East and I’ll dust my form tomorrow morning. It’s not over yet. I bought a form. And I’ll be the candidate tomorrow morning.

“So, the only thing to do now is that Ahmed Lawan is the only person on the table. He is from the North East and they’ve never been President.”
