Osun pensioners threaten legal action over unpaid pension arrears

Osun State Pensioners have resolved to take legal action against the State over non-payment of arrears and monetization of promotions while in service.

The retirees also accused the Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola and other State agencies of insensitivity, negligence and maltreatment.

The pensioners made this known on Tuesday after a peaceful demonstration in Osogbo, capital of the State.

The body of retirees said the State government had breached the Contributory Pension Scheme Law, with reference to sections 5(b) and 7, pages 18 and 19 of the Extant Osun State Contributory Pension Law of 2008.

While addressing journalists, Gbenga Oyadare, Chairman of Joint Forum of Contributory Pensioners urged the governor to apply for a 50 billion naira loan to offset their entitlement since he had claimed that the State was operating on paucity of fund.

Besides, Oyedare accused former Governor and Minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola of illegally deducting their salary.

The Pensioners’ boss appealed to the State government to issue the contributory pensioners, letters of promotions that they were due while in service.

Oyadare lamented that this sad development had made life unbearable for the pensioners in the State.

They regretted that Governor Oyetola skipped the matter on his May Day Rally speech, but directed the implementation of the 65 years retirement age for all categories of staff in the tertiary institutions owned by the State.
