Nigeria Elections: INEC to deepen use of technology

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will deepen the use of technology to improve elections in Nigeria.

National Commissioner and Chairperson, Planning and Monitoring Committee, Prof. Rhoda Gumus gave the assurance.

The official met a delegation from the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) in Abuja on Friday, NAN reports.

Gumus said technology had the capacity to deliver free, fair and credible polls.

The commissioner said technology had brought a lot of transformation to Nigeria’s democracy.

She recalled how the Smart Card Reader revolutionised the conduct and credibility of the 2015 elections.

Gumus said the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System had also eliminated malpractices in the process.

“Conducting elections in this modern-day has become freer, more credible, and more transparent using technology and this has come to stay.”

The electoral umpire reaffirmed that technological innovations had engendered confidence.
