What sacked Abuja Imam actually said during sermon – Shehu Sani

Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has said the committee of the National Assembly Mosque Zone E, Apo Legislators’ Quarters, Gudu District Abuja lied on the purported sermon that led to Imam Nuru Khalid’s sack on Monday.

Recall that the Mosque, after suspending the Imam following an alleged anti-government sermon on Friday, terminated his appointment on Monday.

According to the committee that sacked him, the Imam had asked worshippers and other Nigerians not to vote in the forthcoming general elections until the government fixes the security problems and other challenges bedevilling the nation.

The development has stimulated reactions from concerned Nigerians who argued that the Imam’s sermon reflected the country’s reality, considering the sack as unfair.

Imam Nuru Khalid, who accepted his sack in faith said he has been given a fresh appointment in another Mosque in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Recating, Sen. Sani, a governorship aspirant in Kaduna State, said the committee lied against the Imam, saying Nuru Khalid was only concerned about what the government has done on security before calling for votes in 2023.

“Sheikh Nuru Khalid contextually told the people to conditionally ask the political leaders what they have done about insecurity before seeking for their votes; and the lies they are spreading against the Sheikh is that he was calling for the boycott of the 2023 elections”, Sani said in a tweet.
