UCL: Why Villarreal lost 2-0 to Liverpool – Unai Emery

Villarreal manager, Unai Emery has admitted that they could have lost by more than two goals to Liverpool on Wednesday night.

The Spanish side were defeated 2-0 in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie at Anfield.

The Reds were frustrated in the first half, thanks to Villarreal’s defensive set up.

However, an own goal and a Sadio Mane strike sealed the win for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

“I have to admit, it could have been much worse,” Emery told Movistar Plus.

“We have tried to attack, to pass, to construct but they did not let us do anything and our last resort was to resist defensively in order to survive for the second match.

“We didn’t do enough to lament about anything.”
