Tension in Ondo as hoodlums attack motor parks, machete six NURTW members

 


Hoodlums suspected to be supporters of Jacob Adebo, popularly known as ‘Idajo,’ the new Chairman of the Vehicle Parks Management Committee, invaded major motor parks in Akure, the Ondo State Capital, on Monday, injuring six members of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW.

 

Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, inaugurated the State Motor Parks Management Committee on Monday through his Deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

 

Akeredolu appointed Idajo, the previous Chairman of NURTW in the State, to lead the 21-man committee, which also includes Evangelist Festus Obasoto as Vice Chairman and Bayode Gbenga as Secretary.

It waslearnt that shortly after the ceremony, hoodlums went to various motor parks and attacked NURTW members, causing traffic to be disrupted and passengers to flee for their lives.

 

The thugs, who were said to have arrived in buses with cutlasses, knives, and other dangerous weapons, inflicted various degrees of injuries on the victims who were attacked at the parks

 

The six victims are currently seeking treatment at an Akure hospital.

 

Funmilayo Odunlami, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, said that the issue had not been reported.
