Police strike: Sowore to mobilise legal support for cops dismissed by IG

An activist, Omoyele Sowore has said he would mobilise legal support for the nine policemen dismissed by the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, over the planned industrial action.

NigerianEye reported earlier that two Inspectors, five Sergeants and two Constables were dismissed on Tuesday for allegedly spearheading the call for a strike among the rank and file.

Junior police officers have threatened to go on strike over poor salary structure, lack of sophisticated weapons, delay in promotion and others.

But, the police authorities said they tracked the phone calls of the nine officers to detect that they were the brains behind the purported strike earlier slated for March 26.

A police signal said the IGP approved their dismissal after an orderly room trial, asking that they be de-kitted and deleted from the payroll.

Reacting on Wednesday, Sowore asked Nigerians to link him up with dismissed officers, who he said were being “victimised” by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration for planning what he called a legitimate strike action.

His words: “If you know how I can reach these Nigeria Police Force men victimised by the Muhammadu Buhari regime for planning a legitimate strike action, I will be happy to mobilise legal support for them, they’re heroes! #WeCantContinueLikeThis.”
