One burnt to death as petrol tanker explodes in Ogun

One person was on Friday burnt to death when a petrol-laden tanker crashed, spilled its content and went up in flames.

It was learnt that the incident happened in the early hours of Friday, around Sango-Ota toll gate, a border between Lagos and Ogun States.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that the tanker suffered a leakage after the crash, adding that this led to its content spreading to a far distance.

Ogun FRSC spokesperson, Florence Okpe, told newsmen that operatives of the agency carried out a rescue operation, saying they were able to put out the fire with the help of the Lagos State Fire Service.

Okpe added that traffic has been diverted as law enforcement agents cordoned-off the area.

“A tanker crash occurred at the early hours of this morning around toll gate Ota, which resulted to fire outbreak due to leakage that spilled its content to a far distance.

“The FRSC personnel carried out the rescue operation and were able to extinguish the fire with the help of the Lagos State Fire Service.

“One person was involved and was burnt to death.

“Traffic has been diverted, area cordoned-off as well.

“Motorists are advised to drive cautiously, obey traffic rules, lane discipline and cooperate with traffic managers managing the traffic situation,” Okpe said.
