EFCC arrests Osondu Victor Igwilo, others for $100 million fraud

Osondu Victor Igwilo alongside three others have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over a $100 million fraud.

Igwilo, the alleged leader of the criminal network “catchers” has been on FBI watch list for crimes ranging from wire fraud, money laundering and aggravated identity theft of up to $100 million.

He was arrested alongside Okafor Nnamdi Chris, Nwodu Uchenna Emmanuel and John Anazo Achukwu, at a studio in the Sangotedo area of Lagos.

According to the FBI Wanted List, Igwilo and his conspirators, between 2014 and 2016, impersonated and stole identities of bank employees and U.S. government officials.

They were said to have promised fake investment opportunities and boosted the believability of such investments by allegedly recruiting U.S. citizens to impersonate bank officials during in-person meetings with the victims.

Within this period, Igwilo, it was said, perpetrated approximately a 100 million dollar fraud scheme defrauding multiple U.S. financial institutions.
