Drugs trafficking: Abba Kyari may be harmed in Kuje prison – Shehu Sani

Shehu Sani, a socio-political activist, has reacted to an Abuja Federal High Court ruling that sent Abba Kyari, suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, to Kuje correctional facility.

Sani, who raised concern over Kyari’s safety in prison, said the former Police Intelligence Response Team, IRT boss may be harmed.

In a tweet, the former Kaduna Central Senator pointed out that the prison wardens are usually concerned about ensuring the safety of a police officer when sent to prison.

Sani said, “When a policeman is ordered to be remanded in prison, the first concern of the prison wardens is how to keep him safe from the inmates he once arrested and led to their incarceration; in that case, he is kept in a separate cell to save him from being beaten or anyway harmed.”

Justice Emeka Nwike had ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, to transfer Kyari and six others facing drug trafficking charges to the Kuje correctional centre.

The judge gave the order after denying the former Deputy Commissioner of Police alongside other defendants bail.

Justice Nwite had held that the NDLEA placed sufficient materials before it to warrant denying Kyari and the other defendants’ bail.
