APC crisis: Failed reconciliation threatening party’s 2023 outing – Senator Goje warns

Indication emerged over the weekend that there is no end in sight to the protracted crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe.

The crisis involves the former Governor, Senator Danjuma Mohammed Goje and the incumbent Governor, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya.

In a statement signed by Mr Ahmed Isa of the Media Office of Senator Goje and sent to NigerianEye on Monday, he raised the alarm that the recommendations of the Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led peace committee had been jettisoned and would likely affect the outing of APC in Gombe in 2023.

Recall that the National Reconciliation Committee of the party, chaired by Senator Abdullahi Adamu had on the order of the chairman of the party’s caretaker committee, Mai Mala Buni, hosted governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State and the leader of the party in the State, Senator Danjuma Goje to a meeting on January 5, 2022.

In the meeting, which took place at Senator Abdullahi Adamu’s residence in Abuja, he urged the two leaders to sheath their swords in the interest of the party, promising that the State and Local government executive which was the subject of controversy would be addressed.

In attendance at the meeting included the National Chairman of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee and Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Senator Kashim Shettima, former governors and Senators.

However, Goje’s media office in the statement, expressed shock that the matter had not been revisited nor the lopsidedness addressed for the past three months.

They reminded the national leadership of APC that as loyal and foundation members of the party, and having worked for APC’s success in 2023, the jettisoning of the peace process would collapse the party in 2023.

They said: “As loyal and peace-loving party, if this happens, no one should blame our leader and father, Senator Goje, who despite the ill-treatment meted out on him by those he brought to power, embraced the peace moves in line with Islamic Injunctions.

“Let no one be deceived, as it is, our beloved party is in disarray in Gombe State and this must be addressed for us to be able to maintain our leading role in the State. The party is crumbling and this explains the gale of defection and resignation being witnessed daily.”
