Chelsea vs Lille: You’re hiding – Chris Sutton slams Lukaku

Former Chelsea star, Chris Sutton, has hit out at striker, Romelu Lukaku, ahead of their Champions League round last 16 first-leg tie with Lille on Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge.

Sutton said Lukaku should be embarrassed to arrive for training after his poor performance during Chelsea’s Premier League 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace last weekend.

Lukaku managed just seven touches of the ball during Chelsea’s clash with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Belgium attacker has struggled to justify the £97million Chelsea shelled out to bring him back to Stamford Bridge last summer from Inter Milan.

But Sutton believes Lukaku was hiding during the encounter.

“I was the club’s record signing. I cost them £10million in 1999 and it didn’t work out, so I was sold after a single season in blues,” Sutton told the Daily Mail.

“Yet if I had ever finished a game having had only seven touches of the ball, I would feel embarrassed walking back into that training ground.

“For a striker to come out of 90 minutes with that sorry statistic screams ‘I’m hiding,’ and there is no escaping that for Romelu Lukaku.”

He added: “Maybe he will blame a lack of service, but that is only part of the problem.

“If Lukaku wanted to touch the ball more than seven times against Crystal Palace, he could have done.

“He could have made better movements. He could have made it impossible for his teammates to ignore him.”
