‘Dark clouds over my city’ — Burna Boy decries soot pollution in Rivers

Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning singer, has decried the soot pollution in Port Harcourt and other parts of Rivers state.

In the past five years, residents of the state have endured a polluted atmosphere despite its health hazards.

In a series of posts via his Instagram stories on Tuesday, the ‘African Giant’ crooner shared photos of dark clouds caused by soot pollution in the state.

He also called on relevant authorities to address the situation using the hashtag #StopthesootinPortHarcourt.

“Dark clouds over my city. What is the way forward, #StopthesootinPort Harcourt. This is what bright sunny days look like for my people now,” he wrote.

Nyesom Wike, the state governor, had earlier ordered the shutdown of illegal crude oil refining sites in the state to tackle the menace.

He also declared 19 operators of illegal crude oil refining sites wanted for the soot pollution in the state.

The state police command had earlier announced that its operatives have arrested 18 persons involved in illegal oil refining activities.
