UCL: Why I allowed Messi take penalty in 4-1 win over Brugge – Mbappe

Paris Saint-Germain star, Kylian Mbappe has explained why he allowed Lionel Messi take the penalty during their 4-1 win over Club Brugge in the Champions League on Tuesday.

He said it is more important for the club to get the best out of Messi after the Argentine denied him(Mbappe)the chance to score another hat-trick in the competition.

The France International struck twice in the 4-1 win over the Belgian side before the French side were awarded a spot-kick with 14 minutes remaining.

Argentina captain, Messi stepped up to convert it instead of allowing Mbappe to complete his treble.

The spot kick also gave Messi a brace in the victory, taking his tally to six goals in 14 matches since he made the move to PSG.

“We are going to need Lionel Messi,” said Mbappe.

“He remains Lionel Messi. We are going to need him during the season, and I am sure he will help us when the important games arrive.

“He has to arrive with confidence for these matches. It is good for him that he finishes with two goals but it is also good for us for the future.

“I’m trying to help the team,’ Mbappe told RMC Sport.

“It’s not my goal to show who the boss is. I try to help the team, and my teamates give it back to me so that I perform well too.”
