My criticism of government not personal, counter it with superior argument – Bishop Kukah

Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto says he remains unapologetic to those that see him as a critic of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.

Speaking to newsmen in Sokoto, Bishop Kukah said, “All what I have been clamouring for are not personal. There are two issues that bothered me with this administration. One is the quantum of loss of lives and I don’t think there is anybody who is happy about this.”

He added that the second is the allocation of position with favouritism and nepotism, stressing that one thing lacking in the administration is the inability to manage people’s sense of diversity.

Bishop Kukah explained that he has always been a critic of government before this administration, saying that he stands on his challenge to those who don’t reason along with him to counter his position with superior argument.

According to him, “Nigerians are still to learn how to disagree on the disagreeable. We are still to learn how to debate without argument and we are still to agree that some of our best friends are those that criticise us. Criticism is not an abuse; it is what purifies democracy.”

Bishop Kukah stated that next year, modalities for his plan to take 50,000 families out of poverty through empowerment programme would be rolled out.

“I intend to achieve this empowerment dream with practical human solution-oriented ideas that can bring change to the lives of Nigerians through support from my friends,” he assured.
