International magazine rejected my pictures for looking ‘too glamorous’ –Chimamanda Adichie

Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has shared pictures of herself which were rejected by an unnamed international magazine because she looked “too glamorous”.

In a post shared via her Instagram page on Tuesday, Adichie, known for her good sense of style, was dressed in a white cowl neckline blouse and earrings by Christian Dior. She also wore sparse make up and a radiant smile.

“It was a cover shoot for an international magazine. Or it was supposed to be. The magazine rejected the photos.

“They didn’t want me ‘looking too glamorous,’ they said. And so the cover didn’t happen,” she wrote in the caption.

Chimamanda, who has always advocated for patronising Nigerian creatives through her Project Wear Nigerian initiative, also used the medium to celebrate the Nigerian talents who had created the look and shot the pictures.

“What does one do with rejected photos but show them anyway, primarily for the vanity-boosting benefits of such an act, but also to celebrate and thank these talented people in Lagos, photographer: @mannyjefferson, stylist: @zinkata1, hair: @tasalahq, makeup: @bregha, production manager: @kingebuka, nails: Victoria Obot,” she wrote
