Oyetola urges Yorubas to take rightful place in world order

The Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola has reiterated that the Yoruba race remained the cradle of culture, tourism, civilisation, development and tradition.

Governor Oyetola made this known on Tuesday in Osogbo, the state capital, at a colloquium in honour of Prof. Labode Popoola, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN).

Delivering his address with the theme; “The Yoruba Race In The World Systems”, the Governor, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Education, Folorunso Oladoyin, noted that the Yorubas are a massive and creative race with high potentials for relevance spread across the continents of the world.

While charging the Yorubas in the diaspora to take their rightful place in the scheme of things, Oyetola stated that the huge population, enormous creativity, and robust cultural base has placed the race at a vantage position to dictate the pace in the contemporary world.

While stressing that a discussion about the Yoruba race will never be complete without mentioning the “Omoluabi Ethos”, he added that it is the complete embodiment of these qualities that a responsible person should possess.

According to him, “These qualities include diligence, honesty, good neighbourliness, love, creativity and unity.

“Our rich cultural heritage is a source of economic strength, our institutional structure with its inherent three tiers of government in contemporary political structure gives us an opportunity to evolve our own home-grown democracy like our own contribution to world order. Our enormous creativity also has a place in the knowledge and technology-driven 21st Century.

“This colloquium will offer an opportunity to our Yoruba traditional rulers, political elite, professionals, intelligentsia and other leaders of thought across the world to come together to own and harness our rich and diverse potentials for sustainable national and world development.

“Colloquium such as this is an opportunity to find our voice and harness our God-given resources and potential to provide leadership in the countries we are domiciled and consequently the world.”
