Jigawa: Gov Badaru presents over N177bn budget estimate for 2022



Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State has presented the sum of N177.795,588 appropriation bill to the state House of Assembly for the 2022 fiscal year.


The Governor said the bill, tagged as “Budget of Consolidation for Sustainable Socioeconomic Development”, which succeeded the 2021 Budget of Sustained Economic Growth and Social Transformation, is aimed at contributing to our “Next Level Agenda” initiatives.


He said the budget surpassed the 2021 original budget by about 13.5% or about N21.2 billion.


According to him the sum of N83,118,588,000 was earmarked for recurrent expenditure while capital investments amounted to the sum of N91.142 billion while Contingency and Stabilization Funds got the sum of N3.533 billion.


The Governor explained that almost N85.88 billion goes to the two key Human Development Sectors of Education and Health Sectors thus accounting for over 48% of the total proposed budget.


“Education Sector as a whole is allocated almost N57.18 billion representing about 32% of the total budget which exceeds UNESCO’s Education for All prescription of 26% allocation to Education while the Health Sector is earmarked N28.7 billion equivalent to slightly over 16% of the total proposed budget that also surpassed the 15% prescription of the Abuja Declaration,” he stated.


The Governor also stated that the total projected incomes for the funding of the fiscal plans of the 27 Local Governments amounted to about N73.73 billion including envisaged receipts from Federal and State Transfers, Local Internally Generated Revenue and Capital Receipts.


“Personnel Cost (including Local Government contribution to LEA and PHC Staff Cost at N34.5 billion, Overheads and Other Recurrent Expenditure including some of the Recurrent Deductions at N13.00 billion and Capital Development Projects and Program amounted at N22.18 billion and N4.05 billion Contingency Provision”


The Speaker of Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Idris Garba Jahun, assured that legislators will pass the budget into law within stipulated.
