EPL: Man Utd players ‘surprised’ by Solskjaer’s decision after 2-0 defeat to Man City

Manchester United players were shocked to be given a week off by their manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, in the wake of their Premier League 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.

According to The Daily Mail, Solskjaer’s decision came as a big ‘surprise’ given the huge pressure on the Norwegian and the ongoing crisis at the club, with Ralf Rangnick, Brendan Rodgers and Erik ten Hag linked as possible managerial replacements in recent days.

Recall that Man City defeated Man United at Old Trafford following goals from Eric Bailly (own-goal) and a strike from Bernardo Silva.

Solskjaer was pictured boarding a flight from Manchester to Norway on Monday and it has since emerged that players and staff have been given a break away from training due to the international break.

The report added that Solskjaer’s position is safe for the time being, with the Red Devils boss set to be in charge for Man United’s away fixture against Watford after the international break.

Man United players not away on international duty – including the likes of Donny van de Beek, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Mason Greenwood were expecting to be put through their paces at Carrington.

Meanwhile, Man United have lost six of their last 12 matches in all competitions.

Solskjaer’s side currently sits in 6th position on the Premier League table with 17 points from 11 games.
