Anambra Guber: Olumba Obu cancels women’s pilgrimage to birthplace

The Spiritual Head of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu, has stopped the women faithful of his organisation from proceeding to his birthplace, Biakpan, for the annual three-day pilgrimage billed for Thursday 4 to Saturday 6 November 2021.

Universal president of Women Fellowship in the Organization, Her Eminence Victoria Imowo confirmed the postponement in a public statement released Wednesday night.

“It has pleased our Father, His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu to put on hold the 2021 Universal Pilgrimage until further notice.

“This information is as a result of the current security threat posed by the IPOB group in all the eastern states in Nigeria. Biakpan is just a neighbouring community to these states….”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled to hold a governorship election in Anambra State on Saturday 6 November 2021 but violent agitators for the independent nation of Biafra have threatened to unleash mayhem during the period. Resultantly, the tension in Anambra and adjoining states have heightened, leading to the deployment of battalions of soldiers, policemen, and bands of other security outfits.

Our reporter found that the women faithful numbering no fewer than two million in different countries, particularly the vast majority in Nigeria received the news of the cancellation with shock having put all the logistics in place for departure early Thursday morning.

An official of the group in Anambra State, Lauretta Chukwuma said “due to restrictions of movements in Anambra State starting from today, our leadership is very law-abiding and considerate and cannot expose lives of its members to dangers. Besides we are encouraged to also exercise our vote power.”

Another official, Blessed Mother Agnes Akpan added that from the eastern states, South-South and western Nigeria alone no fewer than 205 buses had been booked and deposits paid for journeys to Biakpan.
