Posterity won’t forgive you – Shehu Sani blames govt over fresh Sokoto massacre

Senator Shehu Sani who represented the Kaduna Central during the 8th National Assembly says history and posterity will not be kind to those keeping silent on the incessant killing of Northerners by bandits.

The former lawmaker was reacting to the massacre of over 43 villagers by bandits who invaded the Goronyo Market in Sokoto State on Sunday and gunned down scores.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, Senator Shehu attributed the killings to “leadership vacuum”, stressing that there was no place in the world where people are slaughtered in mass scale like Northern Nigeria.

He lamented that the lives of Northern Nigerians no longer have value due to banditry and terrorism ravaging the region.

The post reads, “The massacre of over forty innocent people in Sokoto by terrorists despite the heavy presence of the Army, the police and other outfits in the state, and despite the shutdown of telecom in the state is tragic, sad, unfortunate and condemnable.

“The life of the poor has become so cheap in Northern Nigeria and the Government has failed in its constitutional responsibility to defend and protect the lives of our people.

“History and posterity will not be kind to those who choose the path of silence out of fear or expectation of favour from those in power while the blood of the people are shed everyday.

“Nowhere in the World are people so slaughtered in mass scale like this part of the country. When People live at the mercy of terrorists, there’s a vacuum in leadership.

“My condolences to the people and the Government of Sokoto state over this tragedy”.
