PDP congresses: Consensus is working in our party – Edo Deputy Governor, Shaibu


Deputy Governor of Edo, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has declared that consensus arrangement on leadership positions of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) congresses is working.

Shaibu, who doubles as Chairman, Local Government Congresses of PDP in Oyo State, made this disclosure on Tuesday.

He spoke after monitoring the local government congress of the party in some parts of Ibadan.

It was reported that the PDP local government congress was held across the state on Tuesday.

Shaibu, who addressed journalists after monitoring the congress, said the peaceful coordination of PDP members in the state and the consensus agreement is a victory for the party in future elections.

He maintained that he was not surprised with the development because the last week ward congresses was also peaceful.

Shaibu said; “Apart from the venues of the congresses I personally visited, I have been getting reports from other committee members we sent to other zones and local governments that it is been very peaceful and coordinated. We expected that because the main work was at the ward level.

“What we are seen today is the affirmation of what happened last week and we are to go to fulfil the constitutional provision.

“Which means even when there is consensus agreement, we must go to the field and affirm what we called consensus agreement.

“With reports we are getting from other local government and other zones, I am happy that he consensus is working with the results we are getting from the field.”

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the party, Senator Hosea Agboola, while speaking said that there is no report of violence during the congress.

Agboola said “We went round together and you can see that the congress was peaceful.

“We have being to Ibadan Southeast and Ibadan Northwest local government. Other members of the committee have gone to Oke Ogun while other have gone to Ibarapa area.

“Everything has been peaceful and no report of violence in any place.”
