Insecurity: Defence Minister, CDS, service chiefs visit Maiduguri


The Minister of Defence, Maj.-Gen. Bashir Magashi (rtd), on Friday, arrived in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on an assessment visit, accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor, and service chiefs.

Speaking at the Command and Control Centre of the headquarters of Joint Task Force “Operation Hadin kai ” in Maiduguri, Magashi lauded the successes recorded so far in the fight against insurgency in the northeast.

“I want to appreciate everyone in the theatre for a job well done.

“We are here to put heads together to see how to come out with fresh ideas to finish what we started. Success is not too far away with your determination and commitment.

“The Commander in Chief has been magnanimous in providing us all what we need to contain the challenges in the northeast and all other troubled areas,” Magashi said.

The minister reiterated the commitment of the government to the welfare of the military and families of those who lost their lives in service to the nation.

Also speaking, the Theatre Commander, Maj.-Gen. Christopher Musa lauded sustained support to the theatre to effectively carry out its assigned tasks.

Musa assured the commitment of the troops to continue to do their best in securing the northeast.

“We assure you we will continue to put in our very best. We are committed and determined now more than ever before,” Musa said.
