Lagos Red Line Rail: Yaba diversion starts Oct 1, alternative routes announced

Nigerians using routes in the Yaba area of Lagos will have to endure a three-month diversion as the Red Line Rail project begins.

The first phase of the construction will commence October 1. The Murtala Muhammed Way will be closed until January 1, 2022.

Transportation Commissioner, Frederic Oladeinde in a statement advised motorists heading to Murtala Muhammed Way from Western Avenue to use Empire Road at Jibowu.

The Murtala Muhammed Way and Yaba-bound traffic will be diverted to Empire Road to access Western Avenue.

Motorists on Herbert Macaulay Way can also use Empire Road to connect Western Avenue to reach their destinations.

Citizens that will board the train from Mobolaji Johnson Station at Ebute Meta were asked to adjust their movement to avoid missing their trips.

Alternatively, they can board the train from Babatunde Raji Fashola Train Station in Agege.

There will be signages on the access roads as well as officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to manage traffic flow and minimize inconveniences.

Oladeinde noted that the site will be cordoned off for safety, while emergency vehicles will be on ground to tow broken-down vehicles.

The commissioner assured that the three months construction was to ensure that the Lagos Red Line Rail was completed in record time.
