COVID-19: Lagos warns schools as academic session resumes

The Lagos State Government has directed schools to adhere to COVID-19 safety regulations as academic session resumes.

Schools, including model colleges and those upgraded, will resume in batches due to the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Folasade Adefisayo, Commissioner for Education said the adoption of a uniform academic calendar would enable proper planning and ensure students attend classes for the required number of days in a term.

In a statement on Monday, Adefisayo hailed stakeholders’ concerted efforts for the modest success recorded in the 2020/2021 session despite the pandemic.

The official reiterated the need for school administrators to deploy all reasonable strategies for protection of pupils/students and school personnel.

The commissioner assured that Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration will continue the investment in education infrastructure, capacity development and welfare of school personnel.

SS2 students seeking promotion into SS3 will resume September 19; new JS1 students in model colleges and upgraded schools will resume October 2.

Other returning students in JS2, JS3, SS1 and the newly promoted in SS2 are to resume October 9.
