’50 abducted, four killed’ as gunmen attack yet another Zamfara community

The Zamfara police command says 50 residents of Goran Namaye town in Maradun LGA of the state have been abducted.

Muhammad Shehu, public relations officer of the Zamfara police command, confirmed the incident on Monday.

He said four residents were also killed during the attack.

Shehu said the gunmen “came in large number” when they invaded the community around midnight on Sunday.

The police spokesman said tactical operatives have been deployed to the community.

He said Yakubu Elkana, the Zamfara commissioner of police, has ordered an immediate search and rescue operation for the victims.

Shehu added that the command is collaborating with other security agencies to maintain law and order in the area.

The Goran Namaye incident is the third reported attack in Zamfara in the past week.

On August 15, gunmen abducted some students and teachers at the College of Agriculture and Animal Health in Bakura LGA of the state.

A police inspector and two other civilians were said to have been killed during the attack.

Five days after the school abduction, scores of residents were kidnapped during an attack on Rimi village, also in Bakura LGA.

In the wake of the latest attack, the Zamfara police spokesman said the commissioner has urged the residents to remain calm.
