Nine inmates alleged
to have broken out of jail in Nigeria have reportedly been arrested while
entering into Ghana.
According
to MyNewsGH.com, the Ada district police command explained that the
force got a tip-off that some Nigerians “believed to be fugitive jailbreakers”
were crossing the Volta River into Ada Foah.
According to the police, while acting on the tip-off,
security operatives moved to the Clinic junction lorry station, where they
intercepted a sprinter bus and arrested the nine suspects.
The suspects were identified as Emmanuel Obinnah Chiedozie, Steve Eyenuku, Enebeli Lucky, Yommi Usmah, Keli Ekureni, Freedom Yusuf, Obi Onuora, Patrick Chanar, and Bless Eyenuku.
The police alleged that the plan of the suspects was to
enter Accra through public transport after arriving at Ada Foah.
Items said to have been recovered from them are Nigeria and
Ghana currency notes, identity cards, as well as other personal belongings.
The police also said the suspects will be handed over to the
Ghana Immigration Service for further investigation.
Recall that gunmen attacked the correctional centre and
police command headquarters in Owerri, Imo state, on April 5.
The prison spokesman had said 1,844 inmates escaped from the
correctional centre during the attack in Imo state.
